How to test for real silk?

 

1. Pull out a bit of silk from the quilt and burn it. The burning silk should smell like burning hair. The ash should be black and crispy/brittle. As soon as the flame is removed, there will be no further burning.  

 

 

 

2. Real silk can be dissolved by 84 liquid bleach while hollow fiber can not.
